Methanolic Extract of Teucrium Polium Exerts Immunomodulatory Properties in Human Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells

Abstract Teucrium polium has been used in traditional medicine around the world for centuries treatment of various conditions and diseases. Many studies have confirmed pharmacological effects its extracts, although immunomodulatory effect not investigated. Therefore, aim our study was to examine methanolic extract T. (TPE) on peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) derived from healthy donors patients with hepatitis C virus HCV infection. We analyzed PBMCs viability using MTT test. The cell death type determined Annexin V-FITC/7-AAD staining. Immunophenotyping anti-CD8 FITC, anti-CD4 PE, anti-CD3 ECD, anti-CD20 PC5, anti-CD14 FITC anti-CD25 PC7 performed by flow cytometry. Results test indicate that TPE stimulates proliferation PBMCs, while slightly reduced. percentage apoptotic higher after compared control. proportion CD25-expressing among untreated than PBMCs. significantly gradually increased CD25 expression whereas only at highest concentration. upregulation double-positive CD3+CD25+, CD20+CD25+ CD14+CD25+ significant treated concentration effective In summary, exerts a strong and, concentration, PBMNCs.
